Soil Pollution Is Just As Terrible As Air Pollution
Air pollution has been getting a lot of the attention but soil pollution is yet another major problem. Even though many people are not informed concerning soil pollution, it’s something that we should really be concerned about. It is not as obvious as air pollution since it takes place under ground. It is possible to perform tests to figure out the toxicity of the soil.
If water is polluted, it can very easily get into the soil and make the soil contaminated. Because of this, plants become less productive and do not grow very well. A lot of the food we actually eat these days has been affected by soil pollution, and is not as healthy as it once was. Also, without strong plants, flowers and trees growing around us, air pollution is worse, as they remove carbon monoxide from the air. Human oversight and negligence are the major causes to the soil pollution we have now. Chemical substances are held in tanks and installed underground which ends up leaking and getting into the soil. Consequently, a lot of plants quit growing and the area simply becomes dead with no life found.
Other pollutants get into the earth from lots of sources like the landfill. For quite some time, trash was just dumped into landfills with very little concern for what may happen. The water would get the chemicals from the surface and soak into the soil. This would be bad enough if it stayed right there, but below the ground the water can go anywhere, taking the chemicals with it. These days, lots of modern landfills are designed to stop chemicals from seeping into the ground and limiting certain garbage from being dumped there.
The use of pesticide sprays and the negative effects on soil and wildlife have been well documented. There are many organizations that are looking to convince the government to take steps to preserve the soil. With the increase in organic farming and more stringent laws for some pesticides, there is a chance that the soil quality is going to get better. A lot of manufacturers want to change by doing things such as employing biodegradable materials in their products. Of all countries in the world, the United States has the most severe problem with soil pollution. Advances in technological innovations and disregard for the environment are the major causes of the polluted soil.
A lot of people are being aware of soil pollution and are making efforts to lessen it. There are various programs being implemented in the United States to attempt to make the problem better by lessening soil pollution. As individuals begin to do more organic gardening and are being more mindful about their health, there is a good chance that the problem with pollution in our soil can be fixed.
